Kewalo's Bites & Bowls · Honolulu
Accessibility
Everyone should be able to check the menu, find the truck and order, whatever device or assistive technology they use.
The short version
- Our goal is WCAG 2.1, Level AA.
- Works with a keyboard and with screen readers.
- Moving text can be paused, and stays still if your device asks for less motion.
- Something hard to use? Tell us and we'll help.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. The guidelines are published by the W3C and are the common reference for websites in the United States.
What we've done
- A "Skip to content" link and a clear focus outline for keyboard users.
- Text and background colors picked for strong contrast.
- The scrolling band has a pause button, and stays still if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Every food photo has a text description. Decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers.
- The whole menu is real text, not a picture or a PDF, with prices and ingredients.
- The address and opening hours are written out, not only shown on the map.
- Pages adapt to small screens and to zoom, and the content is still there without JavaScript.
- We check every page with automated tests and by hand with a keyboard.
Known limits
- Online ordering happens on order.online, and catering quotes on Instagram. Those pages are run by other companies and we can't change them. If they give you trouble, tell us and we'll help another way.
- The map on Find the truck is a drawing. The same directions are written out next to it, with links to Google Maps and Apple Maps.
- The site is also in Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese. If a translation is unclear, the English version is the reference.
